(DS) Data Science with R or Python – Which is better?
Harvard Business rated “Data Science” as the best job of 2020. According to the recent study by job portals, Data Science and Machine Learning engineers are the job roles that are in demand. NASSCOM has predicted that the Analytics market will be worth over $1.5 Billion, creating over 150,000 job openings, only in India. It becomes obvious that students should be focusing on this Technology. But then again, a question pops up. Where to start? Python or R?
First, we understand what is Data Science
From the figures that you see, there is one word that you will notice 1 and the rest are in the backend. That’s exactly what is the definition of Data Science is. Confused? Take this ex. Suppose you have decided to buy a new taxi for your brother. So where do you start from?
Note: it is one example, you will see so many uses of DS (Data Science).
Obviously first fix a budget in your mind and then go website to look for the taxi in your budget, say, “top taxi within 14 lakhs in India”. You come across many websites on Google’s SERP. Now, here comes the first task that you do online – “Which portal to Choose?“. Assume you clicked on the first website that shows on the SERP. You browse through the website but didn’t like what the website had to offer you. And so you exit the tab. Now you visit the 2nd URL from your previous search engine result page. And to your shock, you see the ads from the first website appearing in the sidebar of the 2nd page. How do you think, this happened?

Assume you liked the 2nd website as it views you user behavior ratings, recommendations which other users have provided based on similar likes and you are also able to compare 4 taxies of different companies, at the same time. How do you think this is happening now?
Very simple put together, its DS (Data Science). Combination of CS (Computer Science), Machine Learning, Mathematics and Statistics, Data Processing and Mining, Engineering and Technology, Complex Data Analysis, Visualization along some Domain knowledge.
Python or R?
Which is Better? Both R and Python are fantastic language. Under certain circumstances, R is better & under some, Python is. But which is the right tool for you? This is a very difficult question for you because, at the end of the months, we need to make the data more accessible to more people. We are living in a data-driven world.
First, start with their background. Both R and Python are open source programming languages, meaning they both are free languages. They can be easily downloaded from the internet /website and have many library support that makes our work easy and automatic. They are much cheaper compared to SASS, MATLAB and IBM’s SPSS is not just the initial cost but also the other libraries that you end up purchasing as these are essential libraries to work with.
